Roanoke Public Libraries is renovating neighborhood libraries and building new facilities that will make it easier for the public to take advantage of their wonderful resources.  Already completed, Jackson Park and Gainsboro Library are cutting edge facilities that bring you closer to the information that you want.  We bring information to you with our e-branch facilities at Valley View Mall and Garden City Recreation Center.

Recent Building Projects

Raleigh Court Branch Library renovation

Renovation work at the Raleigh Court Branch Library was completed in March of 2016. In addition to expanded parking, a teen center, drive through book drop, and meeting rooms were added. Thank you to the Dorothy Koch Family Foundation for our brand new children’s space. Check out the photos from opening day.

Phase One of the Main library

Phase One of the Main library was completed in October 2015. A children’s mezzanine, family restrooms, a slide, and reading porch are just a few of the new features.

Howery Mezzanine Renovation

Completed in January 2010, the Howery Mezzanine renovation was a complete overhall of the former reference section of the library.  This renovation included adding more computers for the public, creating comforatable seating areas, and developing a versatile space for pubic programming.  Funding generously provided by Yong-Ja Howery, in memory of her husband, and Roanoke native, Dr. Darryl G.Howery.

Virginia Room Renovation

 

Completed in January 2011, the Virginia Room renovation more than doubled the facilites square footage, creating more room for a quiet research space, doubling the amount of shelving for books and increasing the amount of staff and volunteer workspace.  Thanks to the generous support Yong-Ja Howery, the Virginia Room exemplifies the city’s commitment to her history, and commitment to provide the best service to citizens and visitors.

Williamson Road Branch Enhancements

Completed in 2011, this renovation included creating a new children’s section of the library.  Funding was generously provided by Yong-Ja Howery, in memory of her husband, and Roanoke native, Dr. Darryl G. Howery.
