Culture

Today’s library is so much more than books and buildings. A recent Harris Interactive Poll found that 7 in 10 agreed their local library is a pillar of the community (72%), a community center (71%), a family destination (70%), and a cultural center (69%). Here in Roanoke, your libraries offer unparralleled access to literature, music, film and the visual arts. The Roanoke Public Library Foundation supports the library as a community center by funding unique cultural programs that are informative, educational and entertaining. Art, music, and cultural events; summer reading, community cafe nights, story time, teen gaming, author talks, book clubs, computer classes and genealogy/local history classes are just some of the programs that are available at your library. It is our hope to engage, educate, and inspire neighborhood branches through efforts like community gardening. See the library’s calendar for a complete list of programs and classes currently being offered.
